1969 Beetle aka Bachelor Bug

Postby paintballguy424 on Sep Mon 23, 2013 8:00 pm

Sold the cabby and have been hunting for an air cooled for a couple weeks. Went to look at a Super that was parked by Golden Beetle but was an overpriced basket case but this one was sitting next to it. Peter bought it 3 years ago and had not gotten to restore it and originally from Anaconda/Columbus which is where I found my cabby :paranoid:. It is a 1969 Beetle roller no motor. Body is really straight its missing the fenders but the floor and heater channels are solid and body has very little rust a little in the front and rear apron nothing to crazy. The interior is also bare but seats and windows and running boards were included. The plan/goal/if it kills me :smoke: is to have it running, driving, and looking fresh by my wedding in August. Hopefully I make it 326 days to go. I go to pick it up Monday. Cole's financial advise is to buy stock in POR 15 right now. The end result will be the stock blue color with black interior.

Started the day by pulling the gas tank easy enough as it wasn't bolted down or anything.
So I dropped the front beam also to replace it with the new one.

Ordering suspension rebuild for the front today before I put it back completely together.
Was gonna put the beam back in tonight but got called into work [THUMBS DOWN SIGN].

Threw new wheel bearings in the drum and turned them at work last night. The brakes were seized so that's why it was hard to push. I'm waiting for parts for aircooled.net to put the beam back in, grub screws and nuts and upper beam seals and bushings. They should be here tomorrow so Thursday morning the beam can go back in.

This is the handiest little tool. Might be worth it's weight in gold or at least beer.
Image
New hardware, shoes, and wheel cylinders ready to mount to the backing plate. I hate brake shoes…

Tomorrow I'm gonna head out to Johnson's to see what can be scavenged off their bugs.

Front end back together sitting on all fours again.

Shiny new tie rods cause the old ones were so messed up I could not get the ends out. Brake lines bent and hooked up.

My haul from Johnson's

Cluster says ATF with a light between 80 and 90 I assume this means it was an auto stick car.

Looking for all four fenders for 68-72 beetle and a set of stock 4 lug stock wheels if anyone has a lead it would be greatly appreciated.
