What up?? Just chekin in for the first time! Im the proud owner of a 1994 VW Passat GLX VR6, and from what ive heard it has the typical problems in this year and make. Door handles, sun roof, stupid automatic tranny which i just replaced. I have many questions first of which is why does it seem to run so hot??? I reeplaced the thermostat, thermal fan switch, and took the air conditioning condenser out of the way but only helped a few degrees. I know one of the things i need is the half grill and air dam, since mine is not in too good of shape. Id like to do all the basic mods but i want to get this heating problem fixed first. From what i have read so far it seems that you fellas, and ladies im assuming know your stuff when it comes to these cars. I myself am fairly mechanically inclined and can do most of this work with a little guideance. Thanks for the feedback!!!

how hot is hot? It's normal for a vr6 to run around 230F.

Welcome! Nice to have one more VR owner here, and a Passat too. Where are you located?
So, about running hot, does the temp gauge go above 190 degrees or does it just "feel" hot?

Welcome aboard. I would give some insight but I haven't had any experience with the VR yet. The guys know what they are doing so they should be able to help you with out.

Well 220- 230 but you caan tell the performance lags when it gets that hot. And i have pushed water out a couple times before i pulled the Air Cond condenser out and changed the thermostat, thermal fan switch, and temp send unit. Id really like to run cooler. Any suggestions?Roadhog wrote:how hot is hot? It's normal for a vr6 to run around 230F.
Re: new to this site
you might need a new coolant expansion tank cap if it is pushing water out. But really, 220-230 is normal for a vr6.
