Just put on a K&N Typhoon kit. I can already tell a difference.

there is no diference on a vr the intakes that arin and me have that is called a cold air intake for a vr. and you do not cold air to run a turbo it makes to much restriction on the compressor weel and promotes turbo lag the only place a cold air is even worth puting on is in a na moter like a aba
i can't spell but if you stare at it long enuff it looks like a hiden vr6

Re: CAI: FAQ's, truth and lies...
Alright - So i have a question now to add to this...
I have recently put the k04 on, with a high flowing manifold.
I have had my filter stuck on the end of my maf for quite some time, it was working fantastically. But.. i had a hose that was unplugged.. which is not ok. so i had to put my cold air intake back on..
Now - i may be crazy.. but i really don't think i am.. but i also then do not understand this...
After i put the CAI on again - i swear the boost went up, now wide open throttle it will hit almost 30 pounds.
and oddly enough conversely, the car feels a noticeable bit slower- and certainly a slower reaction time after i hit the gas...
is the tube causing some sort of a restriction problem or some other issue? I don't understand how this could have worked..
One other element. that hose that was unplugged - i think mike knows for sure what it was called but i think it was the pump that turns on when i first turn the car on. Now that its plugged and actually connected - could that be causing the boost increase? Argh, I wish i knew more about these cars...
Any input? am i just crazy?

Re: CAI: FAQ's, truth and lies...
You are crazy.
That hose you are talking about is your secondary air injection pump (SAI) that pulls hot air from your exhaust and pumps it to your intake for emission reduction and helps your car warm up faster. Right now you have it venting to atmosphere, which is fine. Ideally you could pull it off and block it off with a billet SAI block off plate machined by Integrated Engineering (Google it). I think with your Revo flash SAI codes are ignored, but Aeron can confirm or deny that statement. However, I don't see how the SAI being hooked up properly would be causing any reduction in power.
I think the slow reaction you are referring to is just simple turbo lag, but I can't explain why your CAI would decrease performance - your boost went up probably due to the decrease of intake temps from that CAI, where before you were pulling in hot air from your engine bay with your filter-on-MAF setup. Is it possible you jogged some hoses loose when you changed out the CAI? Is there any fluttering or is the boost smooth or choppy?

Well, Its hard to say that boost has been normal - the k04 and the non specific chip for it makes it hard to drive anything other than full out if ya know what i mean...
I would like to block off that port sometime soon =)
Its amazing cause it truly felt like there was a loss in action time and also a loss of power...
but our minds are powerful things =)

Are you running a boost controller?

No -I had not needed too previously because my boost did not spike the way it is now, I think that time has changed, i need to put it in.
BTW- your logic of colder air allowing more boost does not make sense because the difference i am seeing is nearly 5lbs of boost.

Don't wait until you bend or throw a rod to put that controller in. 30 psi on stock internals is pushing the limit for a stock motor.
Colder intake temps means colder air, which is colder and more dense, and your software will open and hold the waste gate further and longer. So, 5 psi? Shit I dunno, you were sucking in some hot hot air with your current setup, even with your FMIC.

was probably slower because it was running lean with all that boost.

not true at all lean is faster rpm respose but bad on long term.Roadhog wrote:was probably slower because it was running lean with all that boost.
i think this was allready covered it is turbo lag you show boost but cant seem to use it right
