Head Gasket
so i've been given the task of replacing a head gasket on a mk4 wolfsburg 1.8t. i was just wondering how complicated it will be, ive done one before but not on something this new, and also what other problems could arise from a head gasket problem?

Re: Head Gasket
Not too hard, but labor intensive. You will need new head bolts (one time stretch bolts) and you may as well replace the VC gaskets. The exhaust will be a bitch to work around so be prepared for that, and you will be having to unhook or move the fuel and pcv/emissions system around to get down to the head. Drain some to most of your coolant etc. You will need a 12pt triple square bit and a torque wrench too.

Re: Head Gasket
mostly just some smoke coming from the exhaust which i have been told could also be caused by a turbo problem. my friend purchased the car and was told that the head gasket needed replaced but the previous owner put block seal in it, but the car has started to smoke again.

Re: Head Gasket
test the comp on all fore cylenders and if it is wight it could be a turbo in a stock 18t cause they are coolent cooled if the smoke is blue it couled be a turbo oil seal or turbo piston ring or valve seals in the head or rings on the pistons and for those of you thet dont think that turbos have piston rings
do some reserch i hope thet i helped you out if it is a head gasket they are easy and you dont have to buy new head bolts every time and every buydy how is not a mechanchic atack me and you would be wrong so buy a gasket and mark your timing and drink some beer and have fun it all comes apart just how it goes together

i can't spell but if you stare at it long enuff it looks like a hiden vr6
